Painted en plein air on a cloudy, moody March afternoon, this piece captures a moment of quiet beauty on the winding Thornton Road. I was struck instantly by the composition—the way the lane curves uphill—and the striking mauves and purples in the road and hedgerows. I managed to capture the low sun as it briefly emerged, adding a fleeting touch of light.
Hill Top Farm is both expressive and grounded, with a harmonised palette that reflects the subtle colours of the British landscape in early spring. It's a place I know well—one I return to often—and though it's painted from life, I think it may remind others of lanes they’ve walked too. Paths that feel familiar, even if you’ve never been there. The kind of view that quietly stays with you.
