May Oaks, Coxwold
May Oaks, Coxwold

Painted en plein air on a blustery May afternoon this expressive painting captures the beautiful emerging yellow brown foliage of these oak trees which border a ploughed field near the small village of Coxwold in North Yorkshire. The real variety of greens, warm and cool and their relationship to each other really caught my eye and the sodden mud tracks added a great compositional quality. The paint is applied thickly with expressive and gestural brushstrokes.
