Positioned beside the old railway track to Hovingham on a day of ever-changing weather I arranged my easel in a recently harvested wheat field. My intention was to artistically portray the dynamic sky that cast a shadow over the hill, while also incorporating the rectangular bales as a grounding element in the foreground. The sudden onset of a heavy rain shower prompted me to work swiftly, resulting in a vivid depiction of the scene. This experience also served as a reminder for me to invest in a larger umbrella. Such are the joys of creating plein air art during a British summer.
Oil on a 30 cm x 40 cm canvas board.
