December Trees, Kilburn

Painted on location near Kilburn on a still mid-December day, this piece captures one of my most familiar and revisited views. After weeks of rain, the track had become a stream, I painted this standing ankle-deep in a puddle, which you can just see reflected at the bottom of the painting. I’m always drawn to the sculptural forms of these twin trees in winter; their bare branches and moss-covered trunks seem to hold the memory of many seasons.
