Corner Oak, Pockley

Painted on the last day of August, 'Corner Oak' draws you into the captivating presence of a mature oak tree perched gracefully across a quiet track called Intake Lane, just off the road to Pockley near the North Yorkshire market town of Helmsley. This composition invites you to discover the subtle transformations of the rural landscape. As the wheat field stretches into the distance, freshly harvested, it echoes with the whispers of seasonal change as the landscape transitions to autumn.

I always feel reflective when I see and paint old trees such as this oak. I wonder about the people who have passed by over the many years it's been here and also for those yet to come, it's always a reminder we're just visitors passing through.

I've sought to capture the late summer hues of North Yorkshire through bold and impasto brushwork, with particular emphasis on the interplay between warm and cool hues.

I've used artist quality oil paints on a quality canvas board. The painting is signed on the front and comes with a certificate of authenticity and is sold unframed, allowing you to choose the frame to suit your interior.
