Two Trees, Kilburn, October

Painted en plein air in late October, I was drawn to the vibrant yellows of the ash trees as their leaves began to turn with the arrival of autumn.
Beyond the trees, a field that had recently been ploughed brought an unexpected warmth to the scene, its rich earthy tones complementing the yellows of the foliage. Together with the purples and fresh greens of the track and surrounding hedgerows, they created a wonderful combination of autumn colours.
This is a place I return to throughout the year, with each season offering something new that catches my eye. I've always loved the way these two companion trees frame the view, and remember first noticing them many years before I returned to painting.
